Jamal Selami Discusses Jordan's World Cup Qualification Challenges
National coach Jamal Selami highlighted that Jordan's 4-0 victory over Oman in the fourth round of the Asian qualifiers represents a pivotal moment for the “Nashama” in their quest for World Cup qualification. This win placed them second in their group, edging ahead of Iraq on goal difference and narrowing the gap to three points behind group leaders Korea.
In an interview with FIFA's official website, Selami praised the performance against Oman, stressing the importance of maintaining this level in upcoming matches. He noted that the team's recent success followed a review and correction of errors made in their prior defeat to Korea (2-0). Fatigue and absences in the attacking line significantly impacted the team's performance, but the players learned from that experience and were well-prepared.
Selami acknowledged the absence of Musa Al-Tamari's influence but commended the team's collective effort to overcome this challenge. He expressed optimism about Al-Tamari's return, confirming the player's recovery ahead of the crucial match against Iraq.
Regarding their aspirations for the 2026 World Cup, Selami stated, “We dream and aspire to qualify. Everyone involved—the management, players, technical staff, and fans—aims for this achievement. However, it is not easy, especially since Jordan has never qualified for the World Cup, making this a challenging journey with significant turning points.”
He concluded by emphasizing the significance of the upcoming matches against Iraq and Kuwait, stating that these will be pivotal in determining their qualification path. The match against Iraq is scheduled for November 14 at Basra International Stadium, a fixture crucial for the qualifiers.
